City of Prague To Purchase Brownfield Sites In Modřany From Czech Railways

The City of Prague has agreed to buy four plots of land and a former dispatch building from Czech Railways, for a cost of CZK 25 million. These are unused plots of land in the vicinity of the Praha-Modřany station, which has been decommissioned since 1995.

“In Prague, we have been dealing with a long-term lack of suitable land that would enable the capital city to expand either urban housing construction or civic amenities,” said Adam Zábranský, Prague City Councillor for Property. “I therefore welcome such acquisitions. The plots are directly adjacent to the planned development of a private investor, with whom our city company Prague Development Company will discuss the possibility of exchanging parcels of property.”

One of the plots in question is an access road on K Modřanskému nádraží Street. Prague will also take over an exhibition building housing several apartment units, which are in very poor technical condition and are still occupied by several tenants. The third plot of land is adjacent to the building and is crossed by a defunct siding, which is owned by the private investor.

Furthermore, there are two adjacent plots of land that are purely storage areas, which are now rented by a private company and used for the collection and sorting of wood materials. After the transaction, the lease agreement will be transferred to the City of Prague. Should the city management decide not to continue with the lease, the indefinite contract can be terminated with a three-month notice period.
